The impressive return of ISH 2023
Tangible solutions for achieving climate protection goals in the building sector were the focus of ISH in Frankfurt am Main. The sanitary technology, heating and air conditioning industry is pointing the way to a more sustainable future: decarbonization, renewable energy and energy efficiency are the order of the day.
ISH made an impressive comeback as a mega industry event. The international sanitation, heating and air conditioning industry made the most of the five days of the show from March 13-17 for intensive networking, innovation and business development. The 153,734 visitors from 154 countries were more than happy to take advantage of the opportunity to learn about the status quo and the future of heating transition in the building sector and sustainable water supply after a four-year pandemic break.

The high socio-political relevance was emphasized by the interest of leading political figures. At the opening of the trade fair, German Federal Minister for Housing, Urban Development and Building Clara Heiwitz called for reasonable transition periods, social depreciation and openness to technology during the heating transition. Boris Rhein, Prime Minister of the Federal State of Hesse, and Tarek Al-Wazir, Minister of Economy of Hesse, also took the opportunity to discuss market-ready solutions with representatives of the trade fair industry. Stephanie Wüst, Frankfurt City Council Member and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Messe Frankfurt, also took the opportunity to visit ISH.
2025 exhibitors from 54 countries occupied the entire exhibition area of Frankfurt and showcased the latest developments for the heating, air conditioning and ventilation market, intelligent home and building automation, as well as modern and sustainable bathroom design and innovative installation technologies. As an important component of the energy transition, heat pumps, wood as an energy source and alternative forms of storage were of particular importance.
Other interesting topics were the shortage of skilled workers in sanitation, heating and air conditioning and demographic changes that require bathrooms that are suitable for the elderly and those in need of care. Innovative ventilation systems and touchless fittings, which are becoming increasingly important after the pandemic, were on the agenda, as well as new ideas for saving materials and resources in the bathroom sector. The most important trends were presented and discussed by experts in the rich program of the fair.
Some 154,000 visitors, 44 percent of them from abroad, found their way to the exhibition halls. After Germany, the largest visitor countries were the Netherlands, Italy, France, Switzerland, Belgium, China, the United Kingdom, Poland, Austria, and Turkey. Of course, there were also representatives of Ukraine.
